I Have Decided

God had already instructed Moses to lift his staff above the Sea and He would free His people from the Egyptian Army. “Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea. The Lord drove the sea back with a powerful east wind all that night and turned the sea into dry land. So the waters were divided, and the Israelites went through the sea on dry ground, with the waters like a wall to them on their right and their left.” Exodus 14:21-22 HCSB. And ‘just like that’ the Egyptian Army followed Israel and God sent the Sea back to its original state and that Army perished by the hand of the Almighty.

Many are praying for a miracle from God to save our Nation, but at what cost? There is a vast difference between the USA and Israel. America is NOT Israel. Israel is God’s chosen people, the USA is not on the list of God’s chosen. There is a cost to be given in order to follow after God and a physical death might be a part of it. Jesus spoke of a king in a parable concerning ‘counting the cost.’ And Matthew recorded that Jesus brought a sword and not peace among those who choose to follow after Him.
To follow Christ into the storm, to cross through the sea on dry ground will demand something we may not want to do. Are you willing, am I willing, are we willing to obey His demands?

The very reason our Nation is at this crossroad in history is the result of disobedience. Evil has conquered and for now, defeated the good, the righteous because there has been a large rush to the exit by those who have chosen not to follow after Jesus Christ. There are more of ‘them’ than there are of ‘us.’ THAT is the reason Socialism has overcome Freedom and has gained the White House, and both Houses in Congress. Evil has won the Day.

In order to gain that advantage again, those of Righteousness must be willing to pay a great price. That price is to follow after Jesus Christ. Actually, the Great Price has already been paid and anyone willing to accept that which has been purchased must be prepared to do what God has already decided and follow His Instructions. The result will sound like this, “I have decided to follow Jesus; not turning back, no turning back.

Jesus is Lord.

One Last Time

No doubt, the United States of America is like a wind-up clock coming to the end of a winding cycle. The spring is no longer able to force the gears inside the clock to move the longs minute and hour hands to point to the minutes and hours of the day. So is America, unless some incident happens, the clock will soon grow silent.

So it is with President Trump’s time in office, the mantle clock has run its course and his 4 years are now ending. Nothing can happen to change the flowing course of history, the spring has unwound and the ‘tick-tock’ is about to sound the last time for Mr. Trump. The new President will soon be sitting in the Oval Office…for good or bad.

Jesus came to that moment Himself for his time on earth did come to a very harsh and difficult moment as He said, “It is finished,” and He died. Jesus “gave up the ghost.” He left earth and went to sit at the right hand of the Father, but Jesus sent the Holy Spirit, the Comforter to take His place.

Though this is not the same kind of thing, a replacement for Trump is to take his place as he leaves the White House, but only a replacement. In the moment of the Resurrection of Christ, Jesus was replaced by Himself for the Father, Son and Holy Spirit are God, the God-head. But in the case of the next President of the United States much will change but the changes are not equal in any way. In the case of the coming of the Holy Spirit, everything changes, but in effect, everything remains the same…God remains in place.

The time for Jesus to be crucified approaches just as God knows and Jesus begins to prepare His disciples for the coming week, the week of Passion, the Passover Feast in Jerusalem, “Now on the first day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread the disciples came to Jesus and said, “Where do you want us to prepare for you to eat the Passover?” He said, “Go into the city to a certain man and tell him, ‘The Teacher says, “My time is near. I will observe the Passover with my disciples at your house.” So the disciples did as Jesus had instructed them, and they prepared the Passover.” Matthew 26:17-19 NET2.

In the Synoptic Gospels we read about the details providing information as to the importance of the coming event. That place, the Upper Room is to be prepared with specific instructions from the Christ even though they had no idea that evening would be so important for each of them and for us who would follow.

“Now on the first day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread, when the Passover lamb is sacrificed, Jesus’ disciples said to him, “Where do you want us to prepare for you to eat the Passover?” He sent two of his disciples and told them, “Go into the city, and a man carrying a jar of water will meet you. Follow him. Wherever he enters, tell the owner of the house, ‘The Teacher says, “Where is my guest room where I may eat the Passover with my disciples? He will show you a large room upstairs, furnished and ready. Make preparations for us there.” So the disciples left, went into the city, and found things just as he had told them, and they prepared the Passover.” Mark 14:12-16.

“Now when the hour came, Jesus took his place at the table and the apostles joined him. And he said to them, “I have earnestly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer. For I tell you, I will not eat it again until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God.” Then he took a cup, and after giving thanks he said, “Take this and divide it among yourselves. For I tell you that from now on I will not drink of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes.” Then he took bread, and after giving thanks he broke it and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.”  And in the same way he took the cup after they had eaten, saying, “This cup that is poured out for you is the new covenant in my blood.” Luke 22:14-20.

It is important to take notice of the phrase, “I have earnestly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer…” It is interesting that Judas Iscariot is at the table as Jesus spoke these words. Iscariot is suddenly filled with the presence of Satan, takes his piece of bread and leaves to betray Jesus with the words of suffering flashing across his mind. What a heavy burden he took with him in the moment of betrayal.

Each time you and I participate in the “Lord’s Supper,” or the “Eucharist” our moment with the Living Savior floods our souls with the memory of what the disciples must have felt at that moment, but there is more. Symbolically, we are inviting the presence of the Risen Christ to flood our heart with His Presence once again and we are reminded, “Listen! I am standing at the door and knocking! If anyone hears my voice and opens the door I will come into his home and share a meal with him, and he with me. I will grant the one who conquers permission to sit with me on my throne, just as I, too, conquered and sat down with my Father on his throne. The one who has an ear had better hear what the Spirit says to the churches.’” Revelation 3:20-22.

Obviously, there is no comparison between the transition of power represented on what is to come on January 20th and the awesome symbolism represented by the Lord’s Supper. For we find Jesus knocking at the door of the human heart desiring to share His cleansing Presence with every Believer. We must be prepared to receive Him, to sit down and eat with him, in the upper rooms of our lives.

Followers of the Christ must set aside the politics of the moment as the ‘Change of the Guard’ takes place on the steps of the Capitol Building on January 20th even though politics in the ugliest of forms will have taken us there. But, because we who are Believers understand something different, we must therefore receive the change with grace even though enormous disagreements do exist.

Seeking God’s Protection

The following statement must be read with care and with great desires for the instruction of God. As this day, January 13, 2021 comes to a close I must confess that my heart is full of terrible anger for the injustice that has fallen upon President Donald Trump. And my anger has been fueled by the fraudulent election results of November 3rd. God has shown me that this anger has been, itself, misguided by my disappointment and tonight He demonstrated that I must now seek His judgment upon those who have perpetrated this evil upon His servant, the President.

Psalms 1-20 (and beyond) are quite revealing as to how God responded to protect Israel and King David, and I have had to ask God, “Will you do the same for America even though this Nation is NOT Israel and President Donald Trump is NOT a King David?” OR is Mr. Trump a King Davd? Is it not possible that Donald Trump has been anointed by God to do what he has done for Israel? I think that is a very real possibility. With that in mind…” The one true God acts in a faithful manner; the Lord’s promise is reliable. He is a shield to all who take shelter in him. Indeed, who is God besides the Lord? Who is a protector besides our God?” Psalm 18:30-31 NASB. So, here we are and the following is NOT a politically-fueled thought, but purely with God in mind.

With all that has happened in our Nation’s Capital over the past 4 years this seems to make more sense:

“Lord, in the morning you will hear me; in the morning I will present my case to you and then wait expectantly for an answer. Certainly you are not a God who approves of evil;

evil people cannot dwell with you. Arrogant people cannot stand in your presence; you hate all who behave wickedly. You destroy liars; the Lord despises violent and deceitful people.”  Psalm 5:3-6.

“The Lord approves of the godly, but he hates the wicked and those who love to do violence. May he rain down burning coals and brimstone on the wicked! A whirlwind is what they deserve. Certainly the Lord is just; he rewards godly deeds. The upright will experience his favor.” Psalm 11:5-7.

David’s experience can be and MUST become our own in this time of evil in our Nation. Satan is actively involved in the lives of very bad, evil-doers and it seems far too few of us who are claiming the Name of Jesus think and believe that our God hates both evil and those who participate in evil activity.

Well, folks, I believe in every word…EVERY WORD…found in the pages of God’s Word to be literally true. Twice David writes that God does, indeed, hate those who are evil-doers. And I am asking God, I am imploring the Mighty Name of God to act against those who are attempting to take down our Nation.

If I do not do this and if others who are Believers in Jesus Christ and the trust  instruction to put on the full armor of God just as the Apostle Paul writes in Ephesians 5:10-20, we are in worse condition than I previously thought.

We find in these 20+ chapters of Psalms that God provides victory over those who do evil against His people. Well, what occured in November and what is going on now is activity against our Nation and against those who Believe in Jesus Christ as Lord. More often than not Israel was out-numbered and God provided the victory needed for Israel to survive. Well, we, the Church, are outnumbered, vastly so, but God is our Arm-bearer and the battle belongs to Him. We MUST ask Him to act on our behalf in order for us to be able to continue to proclaim the Good News around the world, to fulfill the Great Commission.

No, this is NOT a political statement. This is a spiritual claim for we are at war against Satanic forces…his minions. We MUST pray and ask for God’s guidance and for Him to act on our behalf against powers of evil in the Halls of our Congressional Capitol Building.  Not only our Capital is at the center of this battle, our President is in this battle, too.

Am I a fool? Yes, I am a fool for the cause of Christ. This is not a racial conflict. This is a human conflict, a spiritual conflict. This is NOT about me, and not about you, this is about God, and we MUST stand firm in Him alone. We MUST ask for God to intervene… to rain down His power upon these forces of evil…

Jesus is Lord.

Rampant Confusion

Seems to me confusion is rampant all around us is due, not to politics, but to spiritual darkness. There is a lack of spiritual wisdom and discernment because the Light of God has not been understood nor accepted. “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being. In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men. The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.” John 1:1-5 NASB. So it is, the Father, Son and Holy Spirit are each One present; all around us providing light so that blind hearts and minds  might see, but few accept this Truth.

A discerning person will acknowledge the worth of God’s Word for as King Solomon wrote, “Listen, for I will speak noble things;

And the opening of my lips will reveal right things. For my mouth will utter truth; And wickedness is an abomination to my lips. All the utterances of my mouth are in righteousness; There is nothing crooked or perverted in them. They are all straightforward to him who understands, And right to those who find knowledge. Proverbs 8:6-9.

What we observe today is ignorance and stupid people walking in darkness. Their darkness is not because of a lack of human knowledge, but the lack of understanding of a higher thought than their own. Our wise people in Congress have abandoned the God of Abraham, Isaac and John, but are pursuing the gods of this world; praying to those lifeless things.

America has lost her way, “O Ephraim, what more have I to do with idols? It is I who answer and look after you. I am like a luxuriant cypress; From Me comes your fruit. Whoever is wise, let him understand these things; Whoever is discerning, let him know them. For the ways of the Lord are right, And the righteous will walk in them, But transgressors will stumble in them.” Hosea 14:8-9.

Greeting and Warning in the Same Breath

No doubt, this statement from the Apostle Paul is most likely his most poignant and most powerful statement of any he writes. This is an essential greeting, warning and blessing coming from his heart expressing the Message of the Gospel in one breath. The entirety of his letter to the church in Corinth is found here.

21. “I, Paul, send this greeting with my own hand.”

What a greeting this first letter to the Cornithians!! Not only is this for the entire group of faith, individuals are singled out and admonished in their disobedience to the instructions of the Risen Savior. And he points to the importance of Spiritual Gifts and employing them in spiritual living. “Hello!!”

22.  “Let anyone who has no love for the Lord be accursed. Our Lord, come!”

The 13th chapter is known as the ‘Love Chapter’ demonstrating personal love for Christ and for one another. ‘But,’ and there is always a pause, “condemnation comes to anyone who does not express faith in Jesus Christ. Salvation comes to one who believes, but for anyone who does not seek to follow Him damnation is the curse.

23.  “The grace of the Lord Jesus be with you.”

We understand salvation comes by the flood of God’s grace as one responds to voice of the Risen Savior by faith. The result of this moment in time is the ability to accomplish good works because of His righteousness instilled in the spirit of every Believer.

24. “My love be with all of you in Christ Jesus.”

This is a reflection of Christ’s love provided to Peter as He restored the broken disciple “ Then when they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter in John 21:15-19, “Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these do?” He replied, “Yes, Lord, you know I love you.” Jesus told him, “Feed my lambs.” Jesus said a second time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” He replied, “Yes, Lord, you know I love you.” Jesus told him, “Shepherd my sheep.” Jesus said a third time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” Peter was distressed that Jesus asked him a third time, “Do you love me?” and said, “Lord, you know everything. You know that I love you.” Jesus replied, “Feed my sheep. I tell you the solemn truth, when you were young, you tied your clothes around you and went wherever you wanted, but when you are old, you will stretch out your hands, and others will tie you up and bring you where you do not want to go.” (Now Jesus said this to indicate clearly by what kind of death Peter was going to glorify God.) After he said this, Jesus told Peter, “Follow me.”

The expression found in 1 Corinthians 16:21-24 sheds light on the entirety of the purpose of the Gospel of God; salvation for those who believe in Jesus and condemnation for anyone who does not. The question is, “Do you know Him?”

Who Pleases God?

“Now there were shepherds nearby living out in the field, keeping guard over their flock at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were absolutely terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid! Listen carefully, for I proclaim to you good news that brings great joy to all the people: Today your Savior is born in the city of David. He is Christ the Lord. This will be a sign for you: You will find a baby wrapped in strips of cloth and lying in a manger.”  Suddenly a vast, heavenly army appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among people with whom he is pleased!” Luke 2:8-14 NET2.

“Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.” Luke 2:14 KJV.

The question might be, “With whom is God pleased?” No doubt, the question is easily answered by simply looking across the pages of the OT. God’s design for peace and happiness in the OT is found in the Nation of Israel but only when they were faithful and obedient to His commandments.

Obedience is the key to pleasing Yahweh, period. It is easy to know that God’s purpose in sending His only-begotten Son is found in the Gospel Message. Jesus came to become the Sacrificial Atonement for the sins of everyone who will believe in Him as Savior and Lord. “For this is the way God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world should be saved through him. The one who believes in him is not condemned. The one who does not believe has been condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the one and only Son of God. Now this is the basis for judging: that the light has come into the world and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their deeds were evil. For everyone who does evil deeds hates the light and does not come to the light, so that their deeds will not be exposed. But the one who practices the truth comes to the light, so that it may be plainly evident that his deeds have been done in God.” John 3:16-21 NET2.

Peace comes to all people who choose to please Him and those who will choose to follow Him are those who practice the truth. The truth rests in the teachings of Jesus Christ, “Then Jesus said, “When you lift up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am he, and I do nothing on my own initiative, but I speak just what the Father taught me. And the one who sent me is with me. He has not left me alone because I always do those things that please him.” While he was saying these things, many people believed in him. Then Jesus said to those Judeans who had believed him, “If you continue to follow my teaching, you are really my disciples and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” John 8:28-32 NET2.

No doubt a Merry Christmas depends upon the birth of Jesus Christ and how we who know Him celebrate that event. “Jesus is the Reason for the Season” cannot be denied, but the Reason is salvation by grace through faith in Him. This salvation is provided for everyone, but only those who choose to exercise a God-given faith in Jesus Christ will experience this saving grace. “For Moses writes about the righteousness that is by the law: “The one who does these things will live by them.” But the righteousness that is by faith says: “Do not say in your heart, ‘Who will ascend into heaven?’” (that is, to bring Christ down) or “Who will descend into the abyss?” (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead). But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith that we preach), because if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and thus has righteousness and with the mouth one confesses and thus has salvation. For the scripture says, “Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.” For there is no distinction between the Jew and the Greek, for the same Lord is Lord of all, who richly blesses all who call on him. For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” Romans 10:5-13 NET2.

Therefore, here we are on December 25, 2020 with the expressions of “Merry Christmas!!” in the air. We must be aware that these expressions are intended for everyone, but only everyone who expresses faith in Jesus Christ can experience a real Merry Christmas.

My prayer is that you will enjoy this Christmas celebrating with family and friends a very blessed Christmas Day.

The Story of Jesus in Paraphrase

“Now the Word became flesh and took up residence among us. We saw his glory—the glory of the one and only, full of grace and truth, who came from the Father. 15 John testified about him and shouted out, “This one was the one about whom I said, ‘He who comes after me is greater than I am, because he existed before me.’” 16 For we have all received from his fullness one gracious gift after another. 17 For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came about through Jesus Christ. 18 No one has ever seen God. The only one, himself God, who is in closest fellowship with the Father, has made God known.” John 1:14-18 NET2

“We were the only family with children in the restaurant. I sat Erik in a high chair and noticed everyone was quietly sitting and talking. Suddenly, Erik squealed with glee and said, ‘Hi.’ He pounded his fat baby hands on the high chair tray. His eyes were crinkled in laughter and his mouth was bared in a toothless grin, as he wriggled and giggled with merriment.

I looked around and saw the source of his merriment. It was a man whose pants were baggy with a zipper at half-mast and his toes poked out of would-be shoes. His shirt was dirty and his hair was uncombed and unwashed. His whiskers were too short to be called a beard and his nose was so varicose it looked like a road map.

We were too far from him to smell, but I was sure he smelled.. His hands waved and flapped on loose wrists.. ‘Hi there, baby; hi there, big boy. I see ya, buster,’ the man said to Erik.

My husband and I exchanged looks,  ‘What do we do?’

Erik continued to laugh and answer, ‘Hi.’

Everyone in the restaurant noticed and looked at us and then at the man. The old geezer was creating a nuisance with my beautiful baby. Our meal came and the man began shouting from across the room, ‘Do ya patty cake? Do you know peek-a-boo? Hey, look, he knows peek- a-boo.’

Nobody thought the old man was cute. He was obviously drunk.  My husband and I were embarrassed. We ate in silence; all except for Erik, who was running through his repertoire for the admiring skid-row bum, who in turn, reciprocated with his cute comments.

We finally got through the meal and headed for the door. My husband went to pay the check and told me to meet him in the parking lot. The old man sat poised between me and the door. ‘Lord, just let me out of here before he speaks to me or Erik,’ I prayed. As I drew closer to the man, I turned my back trying to sidestep him and avoid any air he might be breathing. As I did, Erik leaned over my arm, reaching with both arms in a baby’s ‘pick-me-up’ position. Before I could stop him, Erik had propelled himself from my arms to the man.

Suddenly a very old smelly man and a very young baby consummated their love and kinship. Erik in an act of total trust, love, and submission laid his tiny head upon the man’s ragged shoulder. The man’s eyes closed, and I saw tears hover beneath his lashes. His aged hands full of grime, pain, and hard labor, cradled my baby’s bottom and stroked his back. No two beings have ever loved so deeply for so short a time.

I stood awestruck. The old man rocked and cradled Erik in his arms and his eyes opened and set squarely on mine. He said in a firm commanding voice, ‘You take care of this baby.’

Somehow I managed, ‘I will,’ from a throat that contained a stone.

He pried Erik from his chest, lovingly and longingly, as though he were in pain. I received my baby, and the man said, ‘God bless you, ma’am, you’ve given me my Christmas gift.’

I said nothing more than a muttered thanks. With Erik in my arms, I ran for the car. My husband was wondering why I was crying and holding Erik so tightly, and why I was saying, ‘My God, my God, forgive me.’

I had just witnessed Christ’s love shown through the innocence of a tiny child who saw no sin, who made no judgment; a child who saw a soul, and a mother who saw a suit of clothes. I was a Christian who was blind, holding a child who was not.. I felt it was God asking, ‘Are you willing to share your son for a moment?’ when He shared His for all eternity. How did God feel when he put his baby in our arms 2000 years ago.

The ragged old man, unwittingly, had reminded me, ‘To enter the Kingdom of God , we must become as little children.’

If this has blessed you, please bless others by sending it on. Sometimes, it takes a child to remind us of what is really important. We must always remember who we are, where we came from and, most importantly, how we feel about others. The clothes on your back or the car that you drive or the house that you live in does not define you at all; it is how you treat your fellow man that identifies who you are.” –copied–unknown author

I can easily see Jesus at the end of a long walk along dusty roads, in market places, at the city gate, at a well and engaging shepherds, the blind, the lame, the deaf, the prostitutes, Roman soldiers, and the proud religious leaders, Sometimes his face and hands were grimy and there was no arm deodorants, etc. This Man was just as human as we are…in every way. We know who hated Him and why…He associated with the ‘unclean,’ did He not? Oh, and he sometimes cradled small children in His arms much like the homeless man in the story. What had the mothers heard about this Stranger? Well, they killed Him.

But, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was fully God. The Word was with God in the beginning. All things were created by him, and apart from him not one thing was created that has been created. In him was life, and the life was the light of mankind. And the light shines on in the darkness, but the darkness has not mastered it.” John 1:1-5.

The Word is Jesus the Lord.

Obedience Is a Spiritual Response to God’s Voice

Obedience should be the very present vestige of every born-again Believer and Follower of Jesus Christ. Jeremiah recorded this concerning obstinate Israel, “But this is what I commanded them, saying, ‘Obey My voice, and I will be your God, and you will be My people; and you will walk in all the way which I command you, that it may be well with you.’” Jeremiah 7:23. To be spiritually obedient to Him should be as normal as is taking a breath of air. This is an absolute, not simply a necessity.

The real issues becoming problems across the USA is simple; the Church has decreased not simply in size, but in influence because of the failure to obey the voice of God. I will recognize the fact that many will disagree with that idea, but the statistics demonstrate the failure. What has happened? The increase of evil activity is the result of the more and more evil-doers everywhere. There is more immorality because of immoral people in places of authority. Look at the people that the possibly new President of the US has chosen for his Cabinet…one of them being a homosexual male who has a husband. This is simply unacceptable. And there are professing ‘Christians’ who think this is okay? THIS is NOT obeying the voice of God.

“But they did not listen to me or pay any attention to me. They followed the stubborn inclinations of their own wicked hearts. They acted worse and worse instead of better. From the time your ancestors departed the land of Egypt until now, I sent my servants the prophets to you again and again, day after day. But your ancestors did not listen to me nor pay attention to me. They became obstinate and were more wicked than even their own forefathers.’” Jeremiah 7-24-26.

Take note: “I sent my servants the prophets to you again and again, day after day. But your ancestors did not listen to me nor pay attention to me. They became obstinate and were more wicked than even their own forefathers.’” vv 25b-26. Now, let us fast-forward to 2020 and what do we find more than two thousand years later? The Gospel Message has fallen on deaf ears and the prophets have mostly been silenced in our culture for fear of hurting the feelings of tender hearts…LOL!! We are paying the price for disobedience.

I encourage everyone to read the book of Jeremiah or at least the first ten chapters to discover what Israel chose to do and God’s response. Is America experiencing this sort of justice from the God of Israel now? I cannot be for certain, but I can say that God is disgusted with what is happening. The immoral attitudes of most across this Land is not pleasing to Him for He is holy and expects obedience from those who call themselves ‘Christian.’

There IS A Difference

Let us begin with the definition of two words describing who people are using the 1828 Noah Webster dictionary.

Liberal – “”Licentious; free to excess.”

Conservative – “having power to preserve in a safe or entire state, or from loss, waste or injury.”

It is interesting to note one immense difference existing between these 2 words. There are 9 entries in the 1828 Webster’s dictionary for ‘liberal’ indicating the freedom of expressions found therein. However there is but 1 definition for ‘conservative’ indicating the narrow path of expression thereof.

The following definitions come from today’s Meriam-Webster dictionary:

Liberal:

obsolete: lacking moral restraint : LICENTIOUS

: not literal or strict : LOOSE

OR

a person who is liberal: such as a: one who is open-minded or not strict in the observance of orthodox, traditional, or established forms or ways b: a member or supporter of a liberal political party c: an advocate or adherent of liberalism especially in individual rights

Conservative:

1 a: an adherent or advocate of political conservatism b : a member or supporter of a conservative political party

2 a: one who adheres to traditional methods or views b: a cautious or discreet person.

Yes, there is an extreme difference in the meanings and application of these two words in the English language. The word ‘liberal’ is often used to indicate a person who gives freely from the heart and who is loving and adorable.

The word for this discussion can describe a person as being rash and irrational if observed from a conservative point of view. And the same is true for describing a conservative if used by a liberal-minded individual. Personally, I do not view liberals as being totally honest in most things and completely irrational in many. For these individuals normally do not hold to absolute values of any kind, especially morality as observed from biblical standards.

Conservatives know the difference between light and dark for most everything because of absolute values attached to most everything. Conservatives will normally view the U.S. Constitution with absoluteness and will also see the Bible through the same lens. This application may or may not be true in every case, but most likely can be said for most anyone who holds to Conservative values. Perhaps the term used here can be described as being ‘absolutism.’ There is no change of direction because the wind blows from a different direction. A strong wind or water current will not move the foundation upon which Conservatism is constructed. Literal truth can also describe a view of conservatism.

Conservatism will always point to the east and say the sun will rise from there tomorrow morning and will set over in the west this afternoon. This is a fact that has held true from the moment of Creation. God placed everything into motion and nothing has changed. The constant is not variable. Oh, the winds will change, the temperature will change just as the weather changes from one day to the next, for this is a constant in our world. However, climate does change and has forever changed from the beginning of time and mankind has not affected this, either for this is a constant that God set in motion as well.

Absolutes are not variable because these are given by God such as morality. Man has affected and effectually changed these values, but God has stated across the pages of Holy Writ that His values do not change and man is charged to follow them. And if these are not followed God’s justice reigns and there will someday be a final Day of Judgment. These moral absolutes are secured in eternity past, present and future.

For this reason God sent His only-begotten Son, Jesus Christ to live amongst us, to sacrifice Himself for the redemption of mankind, died and buried and after 3 arose from the dead. He established His Church to proclaim His Gospel Message of forgiveness and salvation, and to proclaim that He is one day returning to remove His people from the earth because a terrible time of Tribulation is coming after which time He will judge the earth and on that Day, “Now I saw no temple in the city, because the Lord God—the All-Powerful—and the Lamb are its temple. The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, because the glory of God lights it up, and its lamp is the Lamb. The nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their grandeur into it. Its gates will never be closed during the day (and there will be no night there). They will bring the grandeur and the wealth of the nations into it, but nothing ritually unclean will ever enter into it, nor anyone who does what is detestable or practices falsehood, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life.” Revelation 21:22-27 NET2.

All things are constant and secure in conservatism, but liberalism has no provision for absolute values and will suffer the consequences in eternity, and there is a difference: for Jesus is Lord.

This is a Good Time to be Biblically Honest and Biblically Practical

Looking at the title I am thinking, “Whatever that looks like.” Everyone has an idea as to what the proposed idea coming from “biblically honest and biblically practical” might look like because most of us will not agree. For myself the beginning point on the board contains several ideas that will not be discussed here, but these are: 1. Literal, 2. Inerrancy, 3. Inspired or God-breathed, 4. and Infallible. Just to name a few. These are my practical thoughts.

However, the best place to begin is with what might be the foundation for understanding and receiving the written text of God’s Word no matter the translation used, Hebrews 11:1-3, “Now faith is being sure of what we hope for, being convinced of what we do not see. For by it the people of old received God’s commendation. By faith we understand that the worlds were set in order at God’s command, so that the visible has its origin in the invisible.” NET2.

“Now faith is the reality of what is hoped for, the proof of what is not seen. For our ancestors won God’s approval by it. By faith we understand that the universe was created by God’s command, so that what is seen has been made from things that are not visible.” HCSB.

“Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. For by it the men of old gained approval. By faith we understand that the worlds were prepared by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things which are visible.” NASB.

“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for , the evidence of things not seen . {substance: or, ground, or, confidence}  For by it the elders obtained a good report . Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.” KJV.

The following is a quote from Manley Beasley as he may have been reflecting upon Hebrews 1:1-3, “Faith is acting as if it is so in order for it to be so because with God it already is so.” Could it be that Believers should simply receive the Word of God as it is stated without our puny thoughts of exposition…at least one time?

Billy Graham, and I am certain others have said something like this, “You know and I know that the Bible says…” This is a biblically practical statement concerning anything the Bible says: anything. This is being honest and practical about what the Word of God says, but the difficulty lies in anyone’s ability to accept any statement of the Bible to be true concerning life; past, present and future. And we must remember the Bible is NOT a book of science as we may understand it, history as we know it, statistics as we may think of ‘stats,’ and anything else. The Bible is a book of faith and this is what Hebrews 11:1-3 addresses. We must agree to accept the Bible as ‘face value,’ but are we able to do so?

Let’s see; God created the universe from nothing and the earth in 7 literal days, God destroyed the earth with a flood and saved man with a big boat, God provided man ‘a way out’ through Abrahama and son Isaac, God proved who He is to the Egyptian Pharaoh by several miracles, escorted the Hebrews to safety across a dry ocean floor and then destroyed the Pharaoh and his army in the same place. Some centuries later God miraculously sent His Son Jesus to live on the earth for 30-odd years, allowed Him to be crucified, buried Him and caused Him to live again after 3 days in a tomb outside Jerusalem. But, there is more. Jesus is now prophesied to return for His Church to be followed by a terrible time of Tribulation and the final destruction of the earth and termination of Satan’s pseudo rule with the final Judgment and installation of the promised eternal life for all who have trusted Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. This is the biblical side of things.

But, where do you and I fit into all of this, right now? Again, let us be ‘biblically practical and biblically honest’ if this is possible. I know this is to be possible.

In America a cultural revolution is in progress, a revolution that is affecting the entire world economically and politically. The results are being felt at this moment across the earth. Not one Nation is isolated from this crisis. This is global. But, this is more affecting than economics and politics. These events are not simply ‘touching’ the world, these events are impacting everything. For this reason I think we are able to perceive this to be in biblical proportions. This is the practical side of events taking place now.

Because this is true, everyone alive at this moment must set aside the physical impact of this American phenomenon and inspect how the Bible is in play; historically, prophetically and spiritually. God is now being seen without most people’s awareness because most do not know Him.

Jesus said it this way, “I have told you all these things so that you will not fall away. They will put you out of the synagogue, yet a time is coming when the one who kills you will think he is offering service to God. They will do these things because they have not known the Father or me. But I have told you these things so that when their time comes, you will remember that I told you about them. I did not tell you these things from the beginning because I was with you. But now I am going to the one who sent me, and not one of you is asking me, ‘Where are you going?’ Instead your hearts are filled with sadness because I have said these things to you. But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I am going away. For if I do not go away, the Advocate will not come to you, but if I go, I will send him to you. And when he comes, he will prove the world wrong concerning sin and righteousness and judgment— concerning sin because they do not believe in me; concerning righteousness because I am going to the Father and you will see me no longer; and concerning judgment because the ruler of this world has been condemned. I have many more things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. For he will not speak on his own authority, but will speak whatever he hears and will tell you what is to come. He will glorify me because he will receive from me what is mine and will tell it to you. Everything that the Father has is mine; that is why I said the Spirit will receive from me what is mine and will tell it to you. In a little while you will see me no longer; again after a little while, you will see me.” John 16:1-16.

Indeed, this is a good time to be biblically honest and biblically practical. “How are you going to get to Heaven?”

Jesus is Lord.
