“Now before faith came we were held in custody under the law, being kept as prisoners until the coming faith would be revealed. Thus the law had become our guardian until Christ, so that we could be declared righteous by faith. But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a guardian. For in Christ Jesus you are all sons of God through faith. For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female—for all of you are one in Christ Jesus. And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s descendants, heirs according to the promise.” Galatians 5:23-29 NASB.
**Why is this so difficult to understand? Nothing is said here about male and female being the same sexually and neither does the Apostle indicate that because of faith our skin color, our racial differences are erased. Those things remain the same, but by our faith in Christ we are equal in Him spiritually. Our bond with Him is the same.
Please note; that because Believers have come to Christ each one is one in Christ, and as Paul writes, “I was made a minister according to the stewardship from God bestowed on me for your benefit, so that I might fully carry out the preaching of the word of God, that is, the mystery which has been hidden from the past ages and generations, but has now been manifested to His saints, to whom God willed to make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. ” Colossians 1:25-27. And again, the Scriptures NEVER speaks of our differences sexually nor racially in a spiritual sense.
However, we do find the differences in Genesis 1:27 when God created us on the sixth day, “God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.” There are two important notes to take from this: 1. “God created man in His own image, and 2. “In the image of God He created him; male and female.” There is a spiritual application and a physical application to be made here. Go figure.
As a result of their sin against their Creator, He said to them, “To the woman He said, “I will greatly multiply Your pain in childbirth, In pain you will bring forth children; Yet your desire will be for your husband, And he will rule over you.” Then to Adam He said, “Because you have listened to the voice of your wife, and have eaten from the tree about which I commanded you, saying, ‘You shall not eat from it’; Cursed is the ground because of you; In toil you will eat of it all the days of your life.” Genesis 3:16-17. Here we find God placing man under bondage for their rebellion against His instructions. BUT in John 3:16-18 we find His offer to free us from our rebellion toward Him, “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him. He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.”
Yes, we can all be made free from our sin for whosoever will may choose to follow Jesus by faith expressed in His redemptive grace.
Jesus is Lord.
