What Angers Folks About the Gospel

The Good News of Jesus Christ, the Gospel Message, makes people mad because they do not appreciate being confronted with the darkness of sin. And they don’t like to have to face that their entire way of life is wrong. AND they are offended to know that Believers do not live sinful lives.

“We know that no one who is born of God sins; but He who was born of God keeps him, and the evil one does not touch him.  We know that we are of God, and that the whole world lies in the power of the evil one. And we know that the Son of God has come, and has given us understanding so that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life.” 1 John 5:18-20 NASB.

Look closely at these statements of the Apostle John:

  1. Believers do not live in sin and are incapable of any sin. This is true because the new man in Christ possesses the sinless nature of the indwelling Holy Spirit. The Savior indeed keeps His Church from sin.
  2. Satan cannot touch the Believer. Read Job chapter 1 and find that God protects Believers from Satan.
  3. Our world is under the power of Evil. In Job 1:12 we find this, “Then the Lord said to Satan, “Behold, all that he has is in your power, only do not put forth your hand on him.” So Satan departed from the presence of the Lord.”
  4. Jesus Christ is the Savior of the World. “We have seen and testify that the Father has sent the Son to be the Savior of the world.” 1 John 4:14.

The reason(s) that lost people hate the people of God is their own hate for God. “If the world hates you, you know that it has hated Me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, because of this the world hates you.” John 15:18-19. These people are known to hate God because many do not believe that He is. Ask them about this and find the agitation surrounding their speech. This subject clearly agitates them. They hate both God and those who follow after Him.

Matthew reveals the separation between good and evil. “The Son of Man will send forth His angels, and they will gather out of His kingdom all stumbling blocks, and those who commit lawlessness, and will throw them into the furnace of fire; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Then THE RIGHTEOUS WILL SHINE FORTH AS THE SUN in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears, let him hear.” Matthew 13:41-43.

The problem with evil is simple: darkness always gives way to light because evil is inferior to good. God is superior to Satan and Believers are protected by Jesus Christ. This infuriates those who do not believe.

Jesus is Lord.
