The Bible says we need faith that God exists.
Look at Hebrews 11:1-3, “Now faith is the reality of what is hoped for, the proof of what is not seen. For our ancestors won God’s approval by it. By faith we understand that the universe was created by God’s command, so that what is seen has been made from things that are not visible.”
“By faith Enoch was taken away so he did not experience death, and he was not to be found because God took him away. Now without faith it is impossible to please God, for the one who draws near to Him must believe that He exists and rewards those who seek Him.” Hebrews 11:5-6. Because we can see God in His creation we will find more in God’s Word.
There was a group of Jewish leaders speaking to Jesus, “But He answered them, “An evil and adulterous generation demands a sign, but no sign will be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah. For as Jonah was in the belly of the huge fish three days and three nights, so the Son of Man will be in the heart of the earth three days and three nights. The men of Nineveh will stand up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it, because they repented at Jonah’s proclamation; and look—something greater than Jonah is here!” Matthew 12:39–41. Jesus said this before He was crucified and speaks of the religious leaders who knew about Jonah. Here the Christ is saying that He will die on the cross for our sins, and then arise from the dead on the third day.
Our expectations concerning God shape our perspectives in everyday living. Our world views dictate how we view people and events. Do we expect Him to answer prayer? Does he seem to be silent if we ask Him to do something? When we ask God to do something ‘now’ is this more important than what He wants for us?
Before we can talk about God’s response in a dark world we must first know how we will react to His desire for us. Our perspective will determine what our faith looks like.
Yes, God calms storms, heals, and feeds thousands. Just what should we expect from God? What I know to be true is that my expectations from God now may not be as seen in the Bible.
Does this mean God does not answer our prayers for help? What we know is that our ways are not His ways. God’s interventions are most often His acts of His grace toward us.
Jesus is the story of the Bible and Who you are looking for. God is here … you just need to reach out to Him by faith.
Jesus is Lord.
